Neurosurgery

Skull base, spinal, vascular and functional neurosurgery, including awake craniotomy programmes.

Belgium's strengths in this specialty

Belgian neurosurgery is concentrated in a small number of high-volume centres — skull base, vascular, oncological and functional neurosurgery are all practised at international standard. Awake craniotomy is offered where appropriate.

Pre-operative imaging is reviewed by the operating neurosurgeon personally before international patients travel — there is no question of arriving and discovering that the case was misunderstood.

Centres we may coordinate with

International patients we work with may be treated through institutions such as UZ Leuven, Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, UZ Brussel and CHU Liège. We are not formal partners of any of these centres — we coordinate care into them, with appropriate humility about their independence.

The patient journey

Imaging is shared in advance. The operating team reviews and confirms the indication. Once you arrive, a final consultation and any necessary imaging precede surgery within days.

Considerations for international patients

Neurosurgical recovery requires careful timing of return travel. We do not authorise long-haul flights until cleared by the operating surgeon and aviation-medical review.
