Bariatric Surgery
Sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and revisional procedures in dedicated metabolic-surgery programmes.
Bariatric surgery in Belgium is concentrated in dedicated metabolic-surgery programmes with multi-disciplinary preparation — endocrinology, dietetics, surgery and psychology in a single coordinated pathway.
Patients are not operated on at first consultation. Preparation is taken seriously, which is what differentiates programmes with sustainable outcomes from those without.
International patients we work with may be treated through institutions such as UZ Leuven, Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, UZ Brussel and CHU Liège. We are not formal partners of any of these centres — we coordinate care into them, with appropriate humility about their independence.
Pre-operative preparation begins remotely. Final clinical assessment, surgery and early recovery are conducted in Belgium. Follow-up is structured at six weeks, three months, six months and one year — initially in Belgium, then with a transition to a local programme.
Bariatric surgery has lifelong implications. We will, in some cases, recommend that you do not proceed if your home country lacks the follow-up infrastructure required.
